Struggling with his dual identity, failed comedian Arthur Fleck meets the love of his life, Harley Quinn, while in Arkham State Hospital. Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson and writer-director Todd Phillips tell us what scared them the most about the sequel to the musical. The film’s subtitle “Folie a Deux” means “The Madness of Two” in French. This initially led to speculation that Harley Quinn would appear in the film, which was soon confirmed.

The name Folie a Deux comes from the 19th century French psychiatrists Charles Lasègue and Jules Falret. The term was coined to refer to two or more people who share the same madness or delusion. The jury foreman talks about “the people of New York” instead of Gotham City. This is due to the fact that New York State is the plaintiff in the criminal case, and this version of Gotham City is clearly located in New York State (most versions have Gotham in New Jersey).

Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel that disappoints, features strong performances from Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, giving life to two tortured and complex characters. However, the story is full of holes, while the first film won us over with its psychological depth and strong social criticism, the second chapter has a hard time finding its own identity. The characters, although interesting, remain in the background compared to the plot lost in useless detours.
